Review of GOOD NIGHT (NOT REALLY)

GOOD NIGHT (NOT REALLY)

by Nan Evenson

This newsletter reviews a delightful, award winning children’s picture book, GOOD NIGHT (NOT REALLY), by Wisconsin author, Nan Evenson.  Nan brings years of experience helping children and teenagers with math and writing. She has taken her math teaching skills, stirred in a bunch of whimsy and created a sparkling, engaging book which will truly help children ages 3 to 7 learn math basics.

GOOD NIGHT (NOT REALLY) shows children how to count from one to ten and back to one with fun twists and turns. Main characters, Lisa and Charlie, travel through their counting journey accompanied by appropriate numbers of fanciful friends — dancing elephants, tooth brushing fairies, and goofy goats dressed in dapper outfits, to name a few.

Their journey is a captivating romp from one to ten and back again. This book is so pitch perfect, it would actually be hard not to learn counting to ten and back to one again!

The illustrations by Karina Matkevych, a talented young artist from the Ukraine, burst with color and blend with the text seamlessly. Nan and Karina have accomplished a very skillful piece of teamwork to keep children interested in the learning process. Math is fun! There’s also a delightful twist at the end but no spoiler here.

Winner of the Purple Dragonfly Book Award and an International Book Awards Finalist, GOOD NIGHT (NOT REALLY) is highly recommended both as a great read and as a skillful way to teach beginning math skills to the youngsters you know.

GOOD NIGHT (NOT REALLY) is the first book in a series that Nan is designing to help young children learn math skills. Nan’s second book in the series, IT’S A TERRIBLE DAY (NOT REALLY), teaches children to count by twos. This book, recently available on Amazon and many other sites, has already won its first award.
